Our pets rely on us for warmth and safety, and as safe our homes may be, especially compared to the wild plains where their ancestors frolicked, our homes still pose some threats to their health, in the form of toxicities! Now I’m not suggesting you throw out everything on these lists, you can keep your stash of chocolate and you need not resort to sugar and water cleaning products, ajax is fine. It is just a matter of being aware of what can be toxic to our pets and taking the necessary precautions to ensure that they never get their paws into this stuff.
Just like you would before bringing home a new baby, safety proofing the house is a required step for all pet owners. Furthermore knowing what is toxic allows you to react appropriately if or when something undesirable is ingested! Some things in these lists may come as a surprise and others may not, but it’ll give you a fair idea of what each toxin does to your pet, the symptoms you can expect and an idea of the sort of treatments we use.
